Straightforward, and a great job for someone in high school/college who can handle high stress. Outside of that, it really just that--a job that can (barely) get you through college, and with that some good serving experience.
Lack of organization, chaotic, little money and high turnover rate. You're judged almost exclusively based on your table turn-time (how quickly you can turn over a table) and your guest check average. The trouble with that, obviously, is that if you're new and get stuck with all the people who come in knowing they want to keep their bill down, your guest check average will reflect that. Also, work-life balance is terrible.
Advice to Management
Emphasize good customer service over often inaccurate metrics. Stop judging servers exclusively by table times and guest check averages. Stress server-customer relationship building.
