    Pros

    Flexibility in my role was excellent, you get to work with very clever scientists and engineers and some of the products they market are truly awesome.

    Cons

    The strategies are all over the place. Talent and R&D is bought in. No one has a clue what they're supposed to be aiming for, they restructure at least once a year which means several months of down time while people re-adjust and many of the best people get fed up and leave. They appear to let interns loose on the IT resulting in out-dated, user unfriendly workflow-based systems that you spend half your time trying to make work. Teamwork is pretty much non-existent because the corporate culture is to get yourself as much exposure as quickly as possible and thereby prevent yourself from becoming one of the 10% that get "restructured" out every year. The buzzword in the company right now is Simplification which is a byword for restructuring because they are not making anything simpler or easier. They are also a surprisingly mean company - salaries are lower than the industry average, pay rises at around 0.5%, you get issued with a cheap Blackberry which means you are on duty the whole time. Budgets are heavily constrained meaning you have to beg to do anything worthwhile. You can work your butt off but if your boss isn't interested you've wasted your time. And worst of all they drag their feet with paying suppliers. I worked with sole traders who were expected to wait 120 days before being paid and then they ran the risk of the commissioner of their work having left and no one to fight for them.

    Advice to Management

    You are too big to call yourself innovative anymore - just be honest and say you are a conglomerate that buys up the little guys doing the tech you can't in order to enhance your profit margins!
