I have been working at GP Strategies

    Pros

The work enviromnent is good, the site offers many perks and ammenities to employees including multiple cafeterias, coffee shops and convenience stores. Everyone from management down works in a cubicle type environment, you will receive your own cubicle and computer. Pay raises are usually given anually unless the company feels the economy pushes them into a raise freeze, this happened in 2009. The client environment is a little intimidating at first but GP employees generally work together in a small group so it doesn't take long to feel comfortable.

    Cons

It is like working for a small company as you work on contract for a customer at their site. Therefore there is little room for advancement or growth unless new clients are acquired which is rare. Management remains stagnant and follows a do as I say not as I do policy. They are strict with hourly employees arriving on time and not missing work but follow a more flexible schedule themselves which has led to some frustration and resentment. At the main site there is a 3/4 mile walk from the parking lot to the office, which has no windows. You are expected to work your walk time into your commute and arrive at your desk at your appointed work time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat hourly employees like professionals. Many have advanced degrees and years of work experience yet everyone is treated like a high school student who needs a constant babysitter. Value and reward hard work and customer appreciation, remember to thank your people for the hard work they did pleasing 10 happy customers and not just attack them for the complaint of 1.
