I worked at GameStop part-time (Less than a year)

The work is easy as far as retail goes, especially if you're passionate about playing video games. Other than being able to nerd out with fellow gamers, the job mostly entails being organized, putting away and counting stock, and making the store look appealing.

There is no real training period. If you don't already know a lot about games or consoles, there won't really be an opportunity for you to pick up information to pass on to customers. There isn't really a whole lot of room for advancement/pay grade, and in my experience, they move around store managers A LOT. This makes it difficult sometimes, since each manager likes having things done a certain way. Also, it gets very slow. Game events are lame, and usually consist of anyone who pre-ordered their game, showing up with a receipt and high-tailing it.

    Advice to Management

Make actual events that draw in potential new gamers. Something geared for kids, or maybe an event that demos the big game or a competition so people get exposed to new games that they may not have purchased before. These are the things that hobby shops and a second hand stores do that always draw a crowd and potentially more customers.
