I have been working at Geek Squad full-time (more than 10 years)Pros
The ability to work from home.Cons
This position has the deadly combination of poor work/life balance caused by scheduling issues and forced overtime, limited opportunities, and management that rules with an iron fist and a magnifying glass demanding numbers so that they bonus, disregarding employee experience.
Recently schedules have been generated less than a week out. A person with a wife and kids is unable to plan anything when they have no idea what they are working the next two weeks. Also, forced overtime is excessive. Not everyone wants to work 50hrs/wk. Some of us have lives outside of this job. Let the people that want to work overtime sign up for it as in days of old. If that's not enough, consider hiring additional staff.
This channel is constantly changing. It's as if the upper management has severe ADD and is unsure how they want to run the channel each week. My immediate supervisor does not care about my experience as an employee. He constantly stresses numbers and his recent emails to his team have become more threatening, mention performance management, expectations, etc. I don't need to be threatened constantly at my job.
This position used to be fun. They have sucked the life and soul out of the channel and it's employees. Several coworkers I have spoken with feel the same way. I am desperately seeking different opportunities outside of Covert and Best Buy.Advice to ManagementAdvice
Fix scheduling, loosen the grip on our neckties, lock down a plan and at least try sticking to it for over 6 mos, understand that employees have lives outside of their jobs. We work to live, not live to work.Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookApproves of CEO
