    I worked at General Dynamics C4 Systems full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Interesting technology and customer base
    - Air conditioned work place
    - Company provided cell phone
    - 401k
    - Medical and dental benefits
    - Corporate jets for upper management
    - Gym reimbursement $250/yr

    Cons

    - Endless soul crushing meetings
    - Draconian travel policies
    - Lots of deadwood around
    - Coach seating while traveling and frequent middle seats for rank and file workers
    - Many managers and few worker bees
    - No real advancement potential
    - Bring your own coffee and tea
    - PTO accrual plan and unpaid Christmas shutdown policy puts a new employee in the vacation hole for the first few years of employment
    - No raises in 2011, 2012, and 2013
    - 2014 raises averaged 2.5-3.5% while upper management is visiting monthly on the corporate jet
    - Ambitious workers will be worked to death and compensated poorly
    - Upper management doesn't know what they don't know about the SATCOM industry
    - Few competent people in the East Texas manufacturing locations
    - No field premiums for frequent travelers
    - 10% promotion cap for inter-company promotions
    - Core hours = Everyone in office between 9am-4pm
    - Micromanagement from the highest levels of management to the lowest level workers
    - 1 person in a meeting actually capable of executing a task with 10+ non-capable people throwing in their two cents on task execution
    - No training available for job specific tasks
    - Lots of uncompensated OT for salaried workers
    - 24 hours in a day mentality from upper management
    - Overpaid ex-Motorola/GTE managers/engineers from Scottsdale replaced local managers and got raises for relocating to Richardson
    - GD stock is at an all time high and every year employee benefits were cut.
    - Early every year we had a meeting where the management told the employees how great the company did the previous year, but in the end of the year we were told it was doom and gloom and there was no money available for raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take a step back and observe the big picture. The train is about to go off the tracks in the SATCOM business.
