I have been working at General Motors full-time (less than an year)Pros
Started working for GM 6 months ago as a Java Software developer and was assigned to a team responsible for “moving” applications from outside vendors to GM (Data Center Transfomration). It is VERY challenging environment. The team I am working on is absolutely the best. I perform various tasks such as: web development, quality control, writing technical documentation, and talking to customers to access their needs. At GM you are expected to learn fast and remain flexible. My manager frequently checks on my progress and cares about my professional development. I feel that I am successful, as the first application I worked on was deployed and I feel that I am making a difference. My manager is always available for assistance and is encouraging me every step of the way.Cons
If you expect to be placed in a team where you will perform the same task day after day, GM may not be the best place for you.
The building is old and has some leaks form the roof when it rains.
Sometimes we are expect to work on the weekends when we deploy applications. You don't have to go to the office and can work from home.Advice to ManagementAdvice
