I have been working at Genomatica full-time (more than an year)

Excellent group of people and work environment, exciting science, new facilities are top notch and in a great location. The CEO often holds all-hands meetings to clearly communicate company goals and progress, which is very nice. Significant freedom to pursue your projects, including resources and support from supervisors. I would recommed this company to a friend if only because the people are awesome, but not sure about the direction it's going.

Low mobility - promotions are very far and in between. Many top performers are not rewarded as they should be, especially at scientist level, breeding disappointment and lack of motivation. There are too many people at the top whose contribution is (at best) unclear, and not enough to do the actual work in the lab. Company culture used to be great, but got diluted out over time. Same with the focus Genomatica used to have - seems to have lost it when it was needed the most.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rethink the company's organigram: upside-down pyramids are no good.
