I worked at Grand Teton Lodge Co. full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

My work. I worked outdoors and loved my specific job. My co-workers were really good too. If you are going to see and hike in the park for a bit this is a great opportunity. Employee offerings were pretty generous. Nice BBQ, free recreation offerings that would cost a lot if not an employee.

    Cons

Housing. Be prepared to work a summer while rooming with another individual in a 10 by 12 foot room that may not be compatible for you (or them you). It can get really tough. GTLC literaly takes people off of the street when needed (they say they don't) but they do. This means they have high turnover. There are seasonal regulars there and they were nicer and more stable but the company brings in the bottom of the heap too.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management always emphasized structure and rules and this and that like any managment but, they stopped when it went against their bottom line or when "politics" came into play: this was especially the case for housing. I heard a lot about GTLC "culture and values" and it ended up being a bunch of bunk. My advice to Vail Corporation is to rotate management and department heads more frequently and get fresh blood in. I think this would lead to more standardization, more responsiveness, less politics, and contradiction.
