I worked at Granite City part-time (More than a year)
I was a host, certified trainer, and server at GC. In the beginning, I was praised and valued and was awarded employee of the month and promoted to a CT within the first 5 months of working there. Then the manager who hired me transferred stores and things changed. Some of the staff were fun to work with, good food, and an excellent, extensive training program. You also get to try all beers, select wines by the glass, and a few cocktails, along with a lot of menu items.
Raises weren't handed out evenly. Staff who had put in a lot of time and effort rarely received a raise, while new staff who complained got a raise immediately. Harassment is huge too. It is not a healthy working environment. Servers harass a lot of the staff, sexual harassment occurs rampantly, and management harasses staff too. I was sexually harassed by a coworker for months and it ended with him kissing me (I did not want it) in front of guests in the entryway. I reported it to management and nothing was done. Not even an email back saying "ok," or "sorry you have to deal with this." I was harassed by management for 8 months and when I reported it to other management, they said they would do something about it and never did. I reported it to corporate, and they said it was a communication breakdown, and never touched it again. I faced retaliation by management. I was yelled at by servers on a weekly basis, even when I was talking with a guest, in person or on the phone.
Advice to Management
When employees come to you about harassment... Do something!!!! Brushing it off as a lesser problem, ignoring it, or retaliation is unacceptable. Learn to trust your employees too. Please.
