Current Employee - Intern  in  New York, NY
Current Employee - Intern in New York, NY

I have been working at Guggenheim Partners as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

It's apparent that the company is interested in taking care of their employees, and actually developing their interns. I've had numerous managers set up time with me just to discuss my future career prospects and how they got where they are etc etc. They're especially interested in helping out military veterans transitioning into financial services, for which I'm very grateful. Most people seem really happy with their jobs, which makes the general culture and environment a lot more pleasant than most places. There's little silly things that make a difference too, like free the snacks and drinks and quite beautiful office environment. These aren't enough to make or break a job, but on top of the incredible development/mentoring, the real projects that interns get to work on, and a supportive culture, it's really pretty incredible. They set up lots of classes for us to learn about different areas of the industry and have really rewarding volunteer events like Habitat for Humanity and CityHarvest as well. The pay is really quite good for a know-nothing intern like myself too. I am drinking the Kool-Aid at this point, but this company is really serious about running a good intern program, and I love coming to work and learning so much.

    Cons

Some departments can have longer hours and pretty high pressure, but that's to be expected in this industry. Back of the house jobs are much calmer with a normal schedule, but won't make you as much money, of course.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As you grow, don't lose sight of why you have so many incredible employees. Keep paying them well and taking care of them, and they'll take care of you.
