    I worked at H&M part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The opportunities. There is a lot of opportunity to travel, open new stores, learn merchandising, gain responsibility, and move up/grow with the company. H&M imposes amazing business principles into the everyday work and somehow makes it fun and rewarding to work there. The benefits. You get a great discount, first dibs on merchandise, first dibs on sale items. If you work full time the health and dental insurance is amazing. Great management (mostly). Most of the management I've dealt with have been understanding and know how to have a good time at work. The culture and your coworkers. The culture can be fun and not too serious. Most of your coworkers will become some of your best friends. They know what you're going through and everyone grows closer after complaining together about awful customers/days at work. Flexibility. You can trade shifts with anyone and you get a pretty decent amount of call outs to go through before you face some trouble.

    Cons

The customers. You will deal with some of the most awful people and potentially end a day after work crying in your car. However much they suck, you become a stronger person from it. I've learned how to treat others, how to not treat others, and at any store or restaurant I know how to be a GOOD and POLITE customer after working retail. The coworkers. Depending on the store you're in, some could try to start gossip or rumors or other drama. You will work with all types and have some run-ins. But, you'll learn how to successfully navigate a crazy workplace in the meantime and learn to love it. The politics. It has been known in a few stores that promotions happen based on (forbidden) relationships. Also, if you don't get along (or suck up to) management, you could get stuck in the fitting rooms all day or running racks. You could also get stuck with no hours or all closing shifts. Things like this unfortunately happen quite often. Black Friday & Thanksgiving. Enough said.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to hands-on coach up new talent. Give the talented employees opportunities and reward them with positive docs or good feedback, etc when they meet a goal. This will motivate the talented ones and allow them to collect on some of the opportunities the company has to offer.
