    I have been working at HCR ManorCare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Likely to hire you if you are just starting out in the medical field as a nursing assistant or physical therapist or dietitian
    - Would recommend for nurses that had a background as nursing assistant or patient care tech or medical assistant
    - Decent pay for everyone except the CNAs
    - The residents are always there to make sure the day is memorable

    Cons

    - Poor working environment for CNAs other than the work experience
    - Poor pay for CNAs
    - Maintenance of water boilers and other building equipment is less than desirable but adequate
    - Apparently upper management positions always need to be filled with people who are more concerned about patient "dignity" rather than their actual safety and wellbeing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - I would recommend filling CNA positions with more part-time and PRN and paying them a competitive wage (at least $12 an hour)
    - Have more PRN and part-time nurses positions available. Commit these people to be on-call at least one shift a week on the schedule which they are given, acknowledge, and commit to in a legally verifiable way.
    - Consider patients' safety, individual physical/mental health, disease management, and overall wellbeing before making decisions that are supposedly based on their "dignity." If you want to have a facility that is "restraint-free," do not accept patients that come with orders from the hospital for scheduled/prn haldol and high dose ativan/xanax. A HUGE STEP in this direction would be requiring A NURSE to be in charge of ADMISSIONS, not some marketing rep that does not understand patient care/drug effects/day-to-day operation of facility.
