I worked at HID as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The people in California I met while there for a meeting, were great. Outside of that, I don't have anything good to say about the company.

    Cons

My manager was very emotionally volatile and unprofessional. After an employee got sick and ended up in the hospital, my manager was so angry at him for being absent that the manager refused to even acknowledge his presence or speak to him for weeks until he finally quit. The manager's behavior created an extremely uncomfortable work environment for all of us. I got the same "silent treatment" when I gave 2 weeks notice that I was leaving. On my last day, my manager literally screamed at me in front of the whole office staff.

On a corporate level, the upper management is reluctant to invest in the IT division (software, website, mobile applications, etc.). Outside of 3 people, our whole office was made up of contractors, making it vulnerable to high turnover. They also had many key positions that were "single sources of failure." At a company meeting, this issue was raised by each department as a major problem but management made it clear they would not do anything about it. Management didn't listen to the very feedback they requested from their employees. They wasted a lot of money on airfare and hotels only to ignore the results of this week of meetings. They would have been better off spending the money to hire people full-time for key roles instead of using contractors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees and support them. Invest in IT or you'll be left in the dust. As for the hostile manager, I think management should take action before someone takes legal action against them.
