I worked at Hallmark Care Homes

The Care home I worked at was brand new, with over 100 new staff starting at the same time. We had a month of training and for the most part, this was well organised and I felt prepared once the residents began to move in. The pay was good. The team that I was a part of was very friendly, encouraging and motivating.

Quickly I discovered that the care plans were not being followed properly by the careers. They were also extremely understaffed and I would have to help them out with caring for residents even though it wasn't part of my job. Staying with residents for a long period of time and making them tea because no one else was around - prevented me from focusing on my own tasks. Residents often complained to me that there no staff around and that were cold. A lot of the staff were very disrespectful and bullying, seeming to enjoy gossiping about each other and laughing about resident's conditions. It was disgusting. They also didn't respect my role as someone who wasn't a career but had an equally difficult job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get more staff, make sure that careers understand how to use the care plans and the importance of them. Tackle any unacceptable behaviour head on. Appreciate the hard work carried out by non-careers and staff new to the care environment.
