Good company to work if you want to be an engineer but lacks enough competent leadership.

    I worked at Harris

    Pros

Compensation is great, and as a way of relocating to Florida, if that's where you want to live.

    Cons

Management and Leadership can be good or very bad. I've had some good supervisors and managers, but I have also had mediocre and just plain bad ones. The employee performance evaluation program is well meaning but penalizes the employee because regular, quality feedback does not take place between subordinate and superior during the reporting cycle. This results in raters trying to mash something together at the last minute, leaving the ratee with little reference to base the evaluation upon. Also, avoid the FDCA contract. Unless you are or become part of their inner circle, you are likely to become a career casualty. This company will do whatever is necessary to make the customer happy, even if it means throwing its own employees under the bus. One team has had several leads in two years' time. Can that many people be bad? Program Management needs to look into the mirror and acknowledge that they are the problem, not by and large the people they put into those positions. Their management seems to define Einstein's definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

That your employees are your most valued asset, not some contract you've won and the government agency you do anything to please. Also, realize that your employees have personal lives and families, and it's not spent working overtime on a regular basis.
