I have been working at Heartland Payment Systems full-time (Less than a year)

Heartland gives those with an entrepreneurial spirit a place to shine and to be rewarded. Their training and support is excellent, they welcome new ideas and creativity, and they recognize success. The infrastructure of the company is just incredible - the tools, the customer service, the products, management. All the pieces are in place to be successful and to offer merchants a great experience! On a personal note, I LOVE being able to work my own hours, not tied to a cubicle or with a manager looking over my shoulder, concerned about hitting their own numbers. My manager is encouraging without being demanding and I haven't needed him 24/7, but I have a feeling he'd respond. The managers I've met really seem to love what they do and rally around their team. Finally, from an operations side, Heartland is just amazing - from the electronic "paperwork" to underwriting to deployment of equipment, it is all so smooth and FAST.

I chose a role that is 100% commission, which in any industry is not as comfortable as a salary. But, the flip side is that is not limiting like a salary. Not everyone is cut out for all commission and that's important to recognize, but just tackle it like someone starting a business - have a plan, ensure you have some savings, and start planning with whom you'll do business before you even start, and be patient. Don't go 100% commission if you can't at least appear patient because people will pick up on that and no one feels comfortable doing business with someone that seems desperate.

    Advice to Management

Having come from a competitor, I say, keep doing what you're doing. You are so responsive and so appreciative of what your employees do, that it shows in my interactions with other employees. Even those in customer service, which we know is a tough job, are always SO genuinely pleasant and helpful. To me, that shows that management is treating employees well because even the greatest employee can wear down over time with poor management - Heartland knows how to bring out the best in people.
