I have been working at Henry M. Jackson Foundation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

salary higher than NIH, benefits and compensation aligns more with federal workers than academic institutions

    Cons

promised 3% increase when performance review were excellent - received a 0.5% increase which is less than the federal government mandatory increase. Any meetings or appointments are held in a location difficult to get to. HR staff take weeks to respond to simple requests. IT support is non-existent on some campuses as they try to centralise it. Visa immigration staff fail to perform their job and cause unnecessary stress. Communications staff are using outdated programs and force academics to conform to poster templates that are ugly and outdated. Promised a relocation allowance and was told that my signing bonus was the relocation allowance despite being told otherwise. Everything is way more difficult than it needs to be and there is no consistency in the way things are done.
