    I worked at Hertz full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Lots of overtime available/required, makes up for the $12/hr rate. 2% sales commision monthly or quarterly if you are able to keep up with insurance sales quotas. Optional benefits available but come out of your paycheck like dental, vision, medical, and life insurance available if you want to pay out for them through work. Get to learn to drive new models of cars nearly all brands. Friendly coworkers. Get to see resorts/hotels picking up customers. 40% off discount for employee & family of employee rentals and LDW insurance on any car lowered to only $7/day. Talk to your coworker drivers and utility/detailers and you learn important skills like putting air in tires, changing tires, jump starting a dead car battery. About $500 discount for employees buying a used rental car.

    Cons

    High turnaround of employees. $12/hr rate without raises if you keep working there for years. Scheduled for 40 hours a week but really ends up being 50 hour work week leaves little time for family/personal life. Management only cares about your optional insurance sales ability meeting quotas, the catch is even if you sell to some customers that every time you rent a car to someone who doesn't want insurance your sales that month look worse, for example if less than 45% your customers that month bought insurance then you may as well have sold none cause it's under quota. In customer complaints customers always ask to speak to a manager... if you ask the manager too often for help you are written up for not taking care of things, but if you handle all the customer complaints yourself like they want but the customer still isn't happy cause only managers can give refunds then the manager writes you up for not asking for help. Constantly running out of cars but call center & website will make reservations regardless and you're stuck dealing with angry customers until something returns which might not be the car they want. Hertz only offers sales training at corporate office, everything else is on the job training which is very slow and unorganized because the staff teaching you are also trying to help customers at same time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hertz has distribution centers but no real fleet management except for a 10 minute conference call right before store opens each day among that area who has extra vans/suvs and who needs them, when a store exceeds 90% utilization the website & call center cannot be allowed to continue making reservations without first checking with the actual fleet available.
