I have been working at Hertz full-time for more than a year

    Pros

exposure to various different vehicles and out of office time driving those cars, but as another post had mentioned that novelty wears off fairly quickly

    Cons

The cons are pretty much what almost everyone else has already stated. exceptionally low pay, extremely unrealistic demands on the employee, bonus structure impossible to achieve unless you scam the system and fake your sales... long hours,, and we're talking long. severely understaffed and unsupported by management.

The only way to supplement your next to minimum wage earnings are to work overtime - then burnout quickly sets in when employees are left without cars to rent, without relief, without formal training. It's a very sink or swim environment.

The management training program is not a management training program. As someone so clearly pointed out it's a sales job nothing more. There is no training on processes, people development, or even ongoing education of the company. Simple if you can weather the storms of understaffing, lack of supplies, subpar rental inventory etc., then you can be promoted. Now, let's talk about promotion. Once Branch Manager is achieved you've pretty much hit a plateau. You then become salaried, subject to all the aforementioned stress, angst and frustration, but only now you get to use a company vehicle for personal use. That is supposed to be the motivator.

Strategic comparison of market value for the similar or same positions with competitors will quickly uncover the facts it's not a competitive compensation all things considered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise starting salaries. Restructure the management training program toward management NOT sales, enlist the help of an unbiased outsource to do this. Adapt the philosophy that you have to spend money to make money. This means make necessary repairs to offices, vehicles, properties and compensation packages. Wake up to the fact that your high attrition rate is probably an indicator of a larger problem, more so than who is or is not successfully getting the unsuspecting renter is some unneeded / unwanted ancillary product
