    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

Benefits, time off, healthcare choices, 401k program (when they match)
My job was teleworker, and work from home.
Teams can be very independent and work well together.
Individuals are allowed personal best judgement on daily decisions. (No micro-managing)
    Many internal opportunities
    Great products and service
    Easy expense reporting
Generous vehicle program for field workers

Remote workers often have a remote manager, but the manager has no idea of your work life, or your team. You might only see the manager 2-3 times per year.

Annual reviews once included personal metrics and were scored for bonuses. Now they give some metrics but even if you score highest, you might get an average review. The company is financially hurting, so they have ways to put a highly successful group with lesser groups, so the final score for the group gives little bonuses. These teams do not have an ability to cross support to raise scores.

Metrics are often only used to compare to your team members, not similar teams across the country. If your team is all awesome and achieving high metrics, someone in your group is still rated below expectation. HP forces each manager to create a bell curve even if the entire team is producing well above other teams in the country. This affects pay and bonuses.

Online training is the main method of training and the HP training sites are slow or the partner sites are slow.
Training is often mandated to all employees and generic courses are often wrong topic for most employees.

401k match is hit or miss, not dependent on your performance, but overall, so bad decisions at the top hurt the masses each year. Do not expect HP to pay matching money each year.

HP does not have any human resource department. They outsourced it, so HP may have non-discrimination policies and equal opportunity polices, but there is no way to enforce it or monitor managers. Employees have a 800 number to talk to for all issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow performance metrics to be seen by staff and compare metrics in a broader manner. Give weight to each metric and ensure managers abide by the metrics in some measure, not just personality or friendships.

Fix the training sites. Provide faster web sites for training and webcasts.

Provide new laptops at least every 2 years. Employees should be displaying the best of HP.
Provide all new personal technology to all employees prior to roll out to the public. If the product is good, the employees will be your marketing. If the product is flawed, the employees can stop a bad release.

Have an HR person conduct exit interviews. Employees are given a lay-off without even a conversation. The exit policy is incredibly rude.

    Negative Outlook
