Former Employee - Support Specialist in Arlington, VA

I worked at Hobsons full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Co workers are great. Generous benefit package including the week off between Christmas and new years. Ability to work from home

    Cons

    Where do I begin...
Arrogant management who thinks they are smarter than they actually are. Stagnant growth, they promote people based not on experience and competency but on attitude thus many managers don't have an idea what they are doing or how to manage a team. Brown nose subculture- management plays favorites as it seems the same five people get promoted especially in the Cincinnati office. Pay is all over the place as some people on the same team make upwards of 20k more than their teammates for doing the same job. They hire and promote twenty somethings who have very little experience. High turnover, they even "encourage" some people to leave at times ( I know three people this had happened to). Too many superfluous meetings that don't pertain to your job. Another re org is in the future...again! Commitment to diversity is laughable they will hire based on ethnicity for some roles just look at the developer teams. Finally there is an unwritten rule at Hobsons which is you need to participate -in meetings, in any ridiculous committee, the beer cart and donate to their charity. If you think you can come in and put in your 8 hours and go home that will reflect on your raises and bonuses if you get one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at yourselves in the mirror many of you need to go but since they are all friends and do cover for each other at times that will never happen.
