    Pros

If you want an easy job where you do not have to put in a lot of extra effort, and your not driven for opportunities to move up, then this is the place for you. You will make a good salary for the Holland area, receive decent benefits, and work with good people, while being a part of an organization that is active and visible in the community.

There was a very healthy 4 weeks of PTO (vacation and sick time) you earn and accumulate over the course of a calendar year. The health benefits were better than average and they have other great benefits too like dental, vision, legal assistance to name a few.

The culture overall is awesome! They have great core-values!

    Cons

Leadership at the executive level seems too comfortable and not up with the times in a business sense. As of this writing, Holland Hospital is in financial bad times. Revenue has been on a fast and steady decline this year (2014) and the executive leadership is blaming it on the Affordable Care Act. (Now officially almost 5 years old). They do not seem to allocate money well, and tend to be freaking out at the bad financial times. While there is still over $380 million in the bank, they are laying off staff, freezing pay increases (understandable) and 401k contributions. (Not understandable). They are closing floors that have patient beds because of the census being low. (A.K.A less people are choosing Holland Hospital for their care). There is also rumors of staff being fired for false accusations of policy violations. Of course, there is always the looming rumors of Spectrum buying out Holland Hospital which Executive Leadership has in the past said will not happen because Spectrum only buys hospitals that are operating in the Red. Well... now Holland Hospital is operating in the red. None of this will probably phase the executive leadership because Holland Hospital is a non-profit organization and like a traditional non-profit organization they are not going to have to be accountable for their performance of leadership. (My opinion).

Management does not listen to its employees. The managers who are good leaders have their hands tied with the directors. Some of the directors are good, but some are very old school and do not want a happy culture and run it like a military. One director cannot grasp as to why one employee would write to another employees manager to praise them for their help in a situation. Some managers highly frown upon simple things like socializing with people outside of their department... even outside of work!

I worked in the office and there is not a work from home policy which is becoming more uncommon these days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Stay up to date with business trends.
    - Stay current with trends in the work culture.
    - There are some really bad managers and directors that need to be fired and replaced with nicer, more effective leaders. Do this!
    - Listen to the regular staff who are not in management but the actual ones getting their hands dirty. Almost all of these people at Holland Hospital in non-management roles are awesome people who are highly intelligent, dedicated and want the best for Holland Hospital and its community.
