I have been working at Hortonworks full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very smart people here, all of whom are also very nice. PM, QE, Engineering teams very driven, committed to getting it right. The company's heart is in the right place, and HR does what it can to encourage constructive community involvement.

    Cons

Companies that are committed to creating enterprise solutions should themselves be enterprises. This place is rushing early and eagerly to offer new features, but deadlines slip and it holds everyone hostage. (Extended deadlines don't mean you get the same amount of work, but more time to do it -- they mean you get even more work, most of it not originally planned-for.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All of us want to do good work and are willing to work very very hard. PLEASE think past immediate profits, and consider your employees. There is a lot of burnout here beneath the brave smiles and "can-do" attitude. Tired people make mistakes. Stressed people make dumb decisions.
