    MANAGEMENT (LOCAL & UPPER MANAGEMENT)

    Good luck on ever hearing the "truth" from upper management. HMH's CLAIMS an open door policy regarding communication, but it's all BS.

    Local Management (California) is a total joke! You have managers in the business for 10+ years that refuse to learn or change with the industry. These clowns were hired back when textbooks were being adopted. And now what do they do? They sit back and approve expenses-that's it. I CHALLENGE UPPER MANAGEMENT TO AUDIT THEIR DM's! Test the DM's on their knowledge of basic products, sales strategies, territory updates, and overall direction of their team. You will be amazed with what you hear.

    Aside from the their lack of motivation, their competency is another major issue. You have DM's who frequently state "i forgot", "nobody told me", "I'm so busy you need to talk to someone else", "what did i do with that thingy?"!!! If you worked for HMH within the past 10 years, then you know the DM that i am talking about. And that person still has a job. Sad to say, but i now applaud that person's survival skills AND now question that persons superior.

    For those HMH employees on the fence, there is a better world out there! I was very scared to leave from such a large company. But guess what? I did it and it was the best decision i have ever made!

    Advice to Management

    You guys have been preaching technology, but you have people up top who cant even work a laptop! Clear out the dummies. HMH in general is on the decline.
