    I worked at IDC

    Pros

    IDC is a great place to work in terms of autonomy and work life balance. One learns about becoming a P&L manager quickly, managing to a lean bottom line. Analysts are given a lot of free reign with not a lot of training or standards to abide by which is good and bad. Clients rely on the numbers and less on the analysis partly because of how the analysis is delivered. IDC is introducing new methodologies and research structures, trying to transform the analytical approach. Also the most senior analysts are spending a lot of time on internal issues where they could be spending more time with clients.

    Cons

    Staffing is extremely lean. Analysts are expected to do research, manage customers, drive new business, manage budgets and P&Ls and much more. The business is struggling trying to maintain relevancy and scaling. Clients like the depth but struggle with how long it takes to aggregate or get higher level strategic questions answered. There aren't a lot of new ideas being brought in because senior management has been there so long, very entrenched.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    There are so many deep tech specialists who need more of a cohesive strategy on where they fit and what to focus on. There is lots of duplication of effort and inefficiencies.
