used to be good, then management destroyed it with a passion.

Former Employee - Software Developer in Toronto, ON (Canada)

I worked at IFDS full-time (more than 5 years)

    1- downtown location
    2- flexible work hours.
    3- nice friendly peers
4- 100 RRSP matching upto 3.5% of paycheck
5- free coffee (yeah there are not a whole lot of benefits so you have to list the petty things as "pros"_)

    1 - very bad management
2- no job security, specially now that they have pretty much out sourced everything to india.
3- no employee recognition "employee of the month" is just a scam for favored people, actual hard working employees never get recognized despite being recommended several times
4- EVERY single year they jack up the cost of health benefits instead of reducing the costs. so if you were paying $40/month last year, this year would be paying $60/month for the exact same benefits even if you did not get a pay rise.
5- scam "bottom line" basis of bonus which includes loss of clients for past few years i.e. no bonus even if you had nothing to do with the loss of clients.
6- very low employee moral, every one is always scared. specially in the IT department.
7- manager level people are ok, but directors and beyond have literally no connection with the employees, after I was laid off I was given a reference letter from the VP of my department of work i had never performed at the company, the letter did not mention anything that i actually worked on.
8- high turn over, every time I was promised a promotion my boss was let go in couple of months, it then took me a year to prove my self to the new manager, as soon as he promised a promotion he was gone too.
9- documentation sucks and is all over the place, legacy systems have minimal to no documentation at all, makes the job really difficult, you are expected to just learn it.
10- no direction, IFDS really dosnt have any direction the R&D team just does a random bunch of stuff without any specific ppurpose.
11- lack of career growth, I was constantly directed to work on tasks that were not part of my job and was expected to move into a dead end job. i tried getting on to the new technologies but was not welcomed.
12- my job title had nothing to do with the job i was performing, and that is now becoming a hurdle in finding a new job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

value your employees, recognize them and provide them room for personal growth, stop jacking up prices for health benefits.
