I have been working at Illinois Army National Guard part-time for more than 8 yearsPros
100% of college tuition is paid - allowed me to get my degree with no student loans.
Great networking opportunities for civilian employment.
Extra monthly paycheck.
Strong bonds and camaraderie fostered over the course of training and deployments - I wouldn't trade that for anything.Cons
Required training can cause conflicts with work and home life.
The "slotting" system means that you may not be promoted unless you secure a certain slot - this means a dead-end for promotion for many soldiers and unqualified people can get a promotion even if they don't deserve it since they were sitting in the right slot at the right time.RecommendsNeutral Outlook
