    I worked at Innosight full-time


    The firm is growing and punches up above what one would expect for a firm its size. Super intelligent and super nice people. Good salary and great benefits. Great place to get experience to build your career. There is a level of flexibility with personal life that I haven't experienced at other places, nor what my friends experience at their consulting firms. It's still consulting and long hours, but they made efforts to help manage it. There has been a transition over the past year and the firm is working through the shift of the focus from execution focused projects to larger transformation projects, where it encompasses both strategy and execution. While change isn't always easy or pleasant, the leadership seems to be conscientious of the impact it could have on the uniqueness of the firm and its culture. The flip side, it's also an opportunity for individuals to help shape as well. The projects were intense and for the most part, interesting. I worked with amazing people and was constantly learning. The firm is very oriented towards their values and focused on maintaining their values with the changes.

    Both a pro and a con - the level of initiative required because it is growing and fast-paced environment. If you don't like fast-paced and working with super intelligent people, this isn't the place for you. It does require confidence. Many of the partners and senior leaders had an open door and willing to collaborate - but you have to initiate it since everyone is busy. I don’t agree with the reviews of if I wanted to work at McKinsey, I’d work at McKinsey. It isn’t McKinsey, it isn’t IDEO, it’s somewhere in between (though more leaning towards McKinsey) and has a lot of potential - just my experience. They do genuinely care about their people, as another reviewer notes, and give people opportunities that they may not have normally had at other firms. On a project, you can interact directly with a client, even when starting out, and also take on added responsibility.


    There is the broader question of the changing value proposition which will be different for some people and what motivates them - the nature of the work, the title, or the money. The salary while competitive is not as high as the big strategy firms, and they try to attract similar talent. Being so busy, there isn't as much direct opportunity for mentoring and learning. It's very on-the-job learning and while a feedback driven culture, would like to have had more real-time feedback.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Really think about the firm you want to be and the impact on the culture as you make the transition. More consistency in expectations of teams and individuals is important as the firm grows. It can be a challenge project to project - it was sometimes a very different experience working with different partners. Don’t lose the genuineness or compromise on quality as you grow, which isa challenge for any growing organization. The firm is made up of it's people and don't forget that - mentoring and development is important.
