I worked at Inphi full-time (more than an year)

There is a good selection of free snacks and drinks most of the time and free lunches are provided either once or twice per week - I think it was twice, although that might have been reduced in order to save cost. Either way they did provide food pellets for their employees who were treated almost exactly like rats.

This company is really nothing more than a managerial pyramid scheme. Engineers are seen as pawns to be used to help fabricate their manager's fictitious relevance. All commitments are scheduled completely by the marketing executives with no pushback at all from engineering managers. Any input from actual engineers is neither sought nor desired. Engineers are forced to work the longest possible hours and as many weekends as possible - with no concern about employee's personal lives AT ALL - in a completely misguided view that the way to solve the problems created by the unrealistic project schedules is to work the antiquated engineering procedures longer. Any attempt to update the procedures gets gridlocked due to a combination of the short-sighted views of the managers and the completely unworkable project schedules. It's always the same thing - "We don't have time to try the correct way of designing this so let's go ahead and do what we've ALWAYS done here ... we'll fix it in the next version." Of course when the next version comes, it's more of the same. As long as the manager can brag about forcing his team to work more hours than should realistically be needed he (the manager) is seen as a superstar by his superiors. I'm actually surprised that engineers aren't asked to punch timecards at Inphi - it would make it easier for managers to brag to each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's only a matter of time that continuing forward with way outdated engineering procedures is going to catch up with this company. Management needs to develop a longer-term view and realize that time needs to be scheduled to allow for modernizing engineering implementations. Burning out engineers by forcing them to complete projects with the current inefficient techniques is not the way to keep good employees.
