I worked at Inter-American Dialogue full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Small, friendly office. Great happy hours, collegial co-workers. Great mission. Opportunity to speak Spanish every day, and often Portuguese. Good work-life balance. It's an excellent place to start your career right after college (or within a couple of years of graduating). You will learn a LOT, work with excellent and very smart people, and feel you are making a difference in the world.

    Cons

This is a small organization and there aren't a lot of middle management positions. If you begin as a program assistant starting with 0-3 years of experience, you may be able to become a program associate after a couple of years, but those roles are only available in some departments and are usually given to people with a graduate degree. Eventually, you'll need to leave for a new job or graduate school in order to push ahead your career. Also, the pay is low, and while that's expected in a non-profit think tank, I think it's lower than other think tanks.
