I worked at InterContinental Hotels Group full-time (More than 10 years)

Plenty of good technical folks to work with and a big network to work on. A few good managers at the lower levels.

Management was, and from what I hear still is, clueless. The words "we're not an IT company" were heard more than once in the data center. A complete lack of vision that caused frequent references to rudderless ships and monkeys with footballs.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue. Replace senior management at the data center with competent technical people and then actually listen to them. Get your "projects" and especially your project "managers" under control. (PS. I know you just replaced DC management but at least one of them is a retread who wasn't useful the first time. Keep trying, maybe you'll get it right eventually.) Act like IT is actually important. It's the 21st century and you're either an IT company or you'll be going out of business soon. Sure, your primary business may not be IT but turn off all those fancy computers and let me know how much money you make that day. Bet it's not nearly as much as you make with them turned on. IT is a VERY important part of almost every business today.
