I have been working at Interactive Intelligence full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Constantly working with latest technologies and practices. Work environment is the absolute best. You are judged by your performance and productivity. If you work best side by side with others, you can do that, if you work best by yourself in an office or with a laptop in front of a pond, you can do that. I have a family and have never had a conflict between time at work and my personal life. In my department at least we rarely have much deadline stress, though it does happen, but compared to all of the other places I've worked, it's practically nonexistent as things are generally managed well. Also there is ample opportunity to move around from team to team if, after a year you find an area that might be more interesting or suitable.

    Cons

As I said in the title, I qualify the "best" with "Indiana". If you want to work with business information technology then this is the place, but if you want to work on something more interesting and creative such as artificial intelligence, 3D simulations or graphics, then you will only find that East, West or South. But if business software, communications or cloud development is your thing then it's a great place. It's located in Indiana, which is good and bad. Because of family I can't move so I'm very grateful to have a place like this to work. Insurance is competitive with what is available elsewhere, but not as good as a %100 company (if any still exist)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't ever change the work environment perks like each developer getting their own office or regular work at home days. For some of us, things like these are what makes the longer commute worth it. Without these I would look for a software job with a shorter commute.
