I worked at International Cruise & Excursions full-time (more than 3 years)

Nice building and on-site amenities, though for everything they do right, they fond a way to do two more things wrong. There are actually some great people who work there, but unfortunately the better they are at their jobs, the more likely they are to move on. Lots of potential, but too many missed opportunities thanks to an overall lack of organization.

ICE presents itself as a large, cutting edge company, but once on the inside the facade quickly shows through revealing a constant struggle to keep the wheels on. This struggle comes at the expense of the company’s many employees who burnout as they deck is constantly reshuffled around them.

In the management/executive side of the business, it’s not unusual to have multiple bosses in a given year as they continue to try and fix their problems by hiring, firing and realigning people. This means pretty much any given week that you are dealing with multiple new team members, so it’s like starting over all the time as you try and get people up to speed. The overarching problems that they are trying to solve for come from the top. The husband and wife owners are very involved in the business and despite having built it from the ground up, they should have stepped back and let the revolving cast that make their senior executive team run things years ago as they have proven to be more detrimental to the business than anything else. They manage with emotions and not sound business logic which leads to the rather toxic environment employees attempt to succeed in. All told, unless you are related to the owners (and several employees are), your chances of succeeding long term in this organization are pretty slim which becomes especially clear as your review comes and goes without a second thought and those large quarterly bonuses they promise never seem to actually come to fruition.

For those interested in the sales side of things, the story is similar, but perhaps not quite as chaotic as the owners themselves aren’t as hands on in this area, though it is overseen by a family member. The sales team is trained extensively in how to move product over the phone. While most of the travel products offered aren’t exactly a scam, the way they are presented isn’t always above board which leads to very high rescission rates and numerous of customer complaints. Commission formulas are routinely ‘adjusted’ or ‘realigned’ which ultimately means they are cut and sales people make less money. This leads to the exceedingly high (near 70%) turnover rates in sales which in the owner’s minds justifies full time recruiters bringing in the next batch of sales people and then multiple full time trainers to get them up to speed and on the floor selling. Ongoing commission reduction and high turnover rates coupled with leadership constantly trumpeting their breaking sales records makes for a cynical workforce with very low morale.

All told, avoid this place at all costs unless you just want to get a short term gig that will give you a good stash of workplace horror stories for years to come.
