I worked at Intersil full-time (More than 5 years)

The company has great focus and processes on the engineering and manufacturing side of the house. Innovation and forward thinking are embraced and rewarded. The culture and benefits of the company are a plus.

Intense focus on profit is good for the company in general, but not so good for the IT department. Constant pressure to cut costs and save money means every project or upgrade is scrutinized and every IT employee is expected to take on the load of multiple people in order to keep costs down. This leads to the company always being behind with regard to technology in comparison with others and with an IT staff of overworked and needlessly stressed employees who are often being micromanaged by IT Management at every turn. They do pay very well, but they will squeeze every last penny of production out of their IT staff, that is a guarantee.

    Advice to Management

There is a better way. Hire competent management who empower knowledgeable IT workers to provide solutions to IT problems and do not micromanage them and require them to attend a multitude of meetings and present daily or weekly project updates, etc. Also, if you want that kind of detail, hire a dedicated Project Manager and allow the IT workers to actually do IT work. For the benefit of the company, invest in IT when and where it makes sense. Don't get caught supporting 5 or 10 year old software just because the budget wasn't there for it. It's hard to keep good IT workers if they know they will fall behind their peers by working for your company. Stay up with the upgrades and let the company and employees benefit as a result.
