    Pros

Many employees care deeply about their customers, the company, and their co-workers. They are committed to acting in the best interests of all parties, furthering the success of the company and delivering real business value to their customer bases.

    Cons

Iron Mountain was in a position of strength when the business world was initially moving from a paper to a digital model. The company could have leveraged its document management relationships with its world-wide customer base to carve out a dominant position in the digital world. Regrettably, management continued to live in the past and not acknowledge that their business model was rapidly dying. As a result, the company that was the acknowledged leader in physical document management missed the bus on transitioning to a company that could have been a major digital player in the international market. What is left is a warehousing company with an inventory of business records.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to understand that there are employees that may have been good resources ten or fifteen years ago and other employees that understand current business challenges and have ideas that can help the company regain its relevancy. Iron Mountain needs to listen to the latter group and realize that game-changing ideas can originate with employees at all levels of the organization - not exclusively with management.
