    I worked at Isgn full-time (more than 3 years)


    Remote Sr. Underwriter: Work from home, they provide the equipment, but I found out a year later mine was inferior and they had to upgrade.. The system was not adequate for the job I was required to do.. My co-workers were wonderful, even states away! We helped support each other.


    Where do I start? I have worked for ISGN several times, contract, and permanent. Which spans about 3-4 years.Yes, I came back thinking it would be different.. it wasn't.
    1) Lack of knowledge of the level and time it takes to do an adequate job. They would make promises that the staff found difficult to provide.
    2) Could not determine when a client took advantage, jobs would be added to the underwriting function (which was already re-processing the file)
    3) Thought they could get away with NOT paying overtime.. by giving bonuses... Lawsuit was won and funds paid to the underwriters who joined the class action.
    4) Lowered salary AFTER lawsuit, then made demands of work expectation that were impossible to do an adequate job. We went from $32 an hour to $25.. and expectations increased. It was their way of retaliation.
    5) Did not support employees in light of the clients insidious demands .. One of the managers at a client called up and yelled at the underwriters. He was one of the rudest people .. Fortunately, I was never on his hit list, but I heard from plenty that were.
    6) Allowed some employees to Cherry Pick files, which made it difficult for the ones with Morals to achieve our goals. There were many complaints, we suggested handing out three files per day and then they could choose... but no, they didn't care. With Bonuses the reward, many people just thought "survival of the fittest" instead of thinking about what is fair.
    7) Feedback was delayed, and if we contested one,, we were never told if they removed. Some of the errors I had were done by some of the client's employees, but they still gave me the error.
    8) No support from ISGN Management when Brokers would call and complain about our underwriting because it didn't follow their agenda.. That is why there was a financial crisis in the first place. Brokers should not be allowed to yell at underwriters. I spent much of my day calling brokers for every little thing as that is what the client wanted. It is a waste of underwriter time.. I firmly believe they were trying to save "processor" time and make up for their lack of experience.

    If you decide to work for them, just go in and leave your feelings behind... Realize that you are a good employee and that ISGN is not capable of running this type of business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I have been a manager, I would never have allowed my employees to be harassed by me or the clients the way I felt. . Review the job required by the client, and what the client is expecting from the underwriter. I know you did time analysis, but it didn't change except maybe one file requirement per day.. Also, know what type of files are being given to your employees to underwrite... Many required 3-4 hours per file due to complexity.. And you required five files a day in 8 hours... Math doesn't add up.
