I worked a the Watertown office from 2011-2012 in the Innovation lab formerly called the NOWLAB. We worked a lot with emerging technologies and prototyping new ideas for clients. Our group was very small with limited budget, but we accomplished some very interesting experiences despite that fact.
Some projects included a custom multi-touch table, spatial gesturing system with mobile controllers, directional speaker advertisements, 3-D facial light projections, multiple interactive data visualization pieces, and many many prototypes internally and for clients.
We got a lot of jealous flack from all departments because everyone thought are jobs were more fun than theirs, but they didn't realize the whole point was to engage them into projects ... maybe management wouldn't let them?
Regardless, it was challenging to engage the other creative and engineering teams because they were always busy with billable projects. Essentially the NOWLAB was too siloed and not well integrated with other parts of the company. Also, it was nearly impossible after the Roundarch merger to collaborate with any group, and essentially the merger killed off essentially anything the NOWLAB had built over the years it was in existence.
Advice to Management
I have no advice since I have no idea what is going on in the company now. For all I know it could be great. However, I do know that Roundarch played a major part in the dismantling of the NOWLAB that Isobar had created and turned it into something completely different. Wonder if it worked out ...
