Great place to learn, but you don't get paid for learning...

I have been working at J.P. Morgan (more than 5 years)

*They let you try out new skills
*Depending on what line of business you're in, the coaching and mentoring is great
*Fast paced, you'll never be bored
    *They allow you to relocate
*Good exposure to sr mgmt (if in the right position, at a major location) for jr employees
*Great place to work for mothers

*Consistently low pay (no increase for learning challenging, valuable skills)
*Notorious for offering lateral positions (you can either move up in current role, or over in another... Not upward in another function)
*Each line runs as a silo and it can be very difficult to get traction for a position outside of your own
*Annual review process is rigid and sometimes unfair (for instance: one year, many colleagues were out in leave and each received "Meets Expectations" as we were "expected to pick up the slack" despite working 2 jobs (and MANY hours) for 9 months
*Raises are paltry and borderline insulting for the masses

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A pat on the back and a nice word from their boss is nice, but if someone stays around long enough and is a high performer, pay them. I know many colleagues who love their jobs and the banks but are grossly underpaid and are constantly looking to leave because of it. "Generous benefits packages" exist at a lot of companies.
