    I worked at Jeppesen Sanderson as an intern (less than a year)


    Good compensation and semi-flexible with hours. Part of Boeing, providing a broad range of interactions with a lot of different corners of the company. Very pilot friendly environment.


    Internship program was extremely disorganized. Little/no guidance or even coherent goals to accomplish. No clear company goals, and a crippling bureaucracy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Shifting from paper maps to 'Digital Aviation' doesn't just require producing a different product, it requires a fundamental change in the structure and strategy of the company. The strong hiring bias towards pilots is perhaps too strong. Pilots tend to think in similar ways and approach problems the same. Foster diversity, not just in race/gender, but in background.

    Jeppesen is too big/slow to effectively act/react to the market shifts and changing technology in the industry. The company should be about 1/5th the current size. Determine your core goal and sell off everything that doesn't fit that goal (GA, BA, MA). Success for Jeppesen will come from being smaller/faster, not bigger.
