Current Employee - Sandwich Artist in Arlington, VA

I have been working at Jimmy John's part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    +VERY flexible on hours

+Everybody there is pretty chill for the most part

    Cons

+Horrible PAY, don't work here if you have bills to pay.. Minimum wage.

+Horrible Management (or the managers I worked with, like they've never been a server
before or got their guidance from a book..)

+Felt like a highschool j.o.b (everybody there was either a 12th grader and barely few peeps over 21+)

+"High School mentality" ~ if you're not in w/ the bosses then you're not part "of the jimmy crew"

*Think the below is a rant, once you're hired READ the employee pamphlet. It reads like a communist doctrine. Nuff said*

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

+ It takes more than an education to get through to people who got their start in the "food & hospitality" biz. It shouldn't matter if you bought into the business or not - at the end of the day you're still serving "people".. Get wit it~!

+ Get your head out of your a**, even though you're a manager doesn't mean you get to hold yourself above everybody else.. IE: it shouldn't be, Managers = drink from bigger than allocated employee cups (makes a difference to moral), get to eat broken cookies (instead of sharing with crew), etc.

+ Instead of throwing away excess food, such as bread or "goof ups" (incorrect employee made sandwiches), either give it back to the crew and incorporate it into their MEAL PLAN or establish something with a homeless shelter or so on.. Just wasting food to prove a point:

I was told on during the 1st WEEK. That if we goof up on certain sandwiches that they will throw it away because they don't want the employees to thinks that they can goof up whenever they please and eat it. Just make it a part of the new "employee lunch/dinner" plan. Jesus guys you serious!

+ Do I really have to fight for eating bread guts?! FIX the employee 6+ hour meal. Look at the above suggestion....

+ Maybe fight or try to improve our pay to corporate. Even though I never asked for a raise because I knew what I was getting myself into, but still, Its pretty miserable. . I know its a franchise and all. But good lord, "1hr 43min" shifts don't help any. .
