I have been working at John Q. Hammons full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent guests with high expectations because they are paying a premium. Adequate training, paid time off, 401K, excellent travel discounts, entry level pay is probably the best around.

    Cons

Mr. Hammons preached 'take care of your people and they will take care of our guests'.... however - the pay scale does not (any longer) reflect that philosophy. Management frequently sounds the bugle to rally around a department that needs assistance (ie: labor) - the reward for volunteering to help out is note and a pack of starburst for being a "star." You CAN cash in the notes for $1.00 each - I've had 5 in a year. In my opinion, jobs here are geared for college kids that have no intentions beyond earning beer money. There is an internal merit and advancement system that spans all properties, but no one seems to know how to make it work... HR at my location is an additional duty for the accountant, and it is obvious she couldn't care less.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff to the appropriate levels or pay overtime. Holiday pay should be a no-brainer. Shift-differential pay too.
