    great benefits, mediocre salaries

I have been working at Johns Hopkins University

    Pros

great working environment for someone in research - there are constant opportunities for collaboration and amazing exposure to speakers/lecturers from all over. Benefits related to tuition help for dependents and retirement savings are excellent.

    Cons

pay tends to be on the lower end, relative to working in private industry or at some other universities. research is carried out very independently at times so you need to be proactive and seek out collaborators and mentors for support.
