    Pros

    There are pockets of hard working, bright, ethical employees.
    The product offerings are solid across all three business units.

    Cons

    Expect to work long hours no matter the role. If you are in a non-revenue generating role (non-sales) expect to do the work of several people at a normal company. An example: Our Human Resources Generalists were responsible for up to 700 employees. The Fortune 500 average is closer to 250.
    Leadership at the Director level and above are concerned about stock options and disappointing Wall Street and little else.
    The CEO is also Chairman of the Board. This is not a common arrangement among Fortune 500's. He is his own boss so anything goes. The CEO has been in the news recently for non-business reasons which has hurt morale.
    Large layoffs are made on the spur of the moment when the quarterly numbers are in jeopardy. Edicts from the top like "We need to cut $5 million in wages by the end of the week or we might miss our numbers; start cutting!" are a very common practice in the Building Efficiency and Power Solutions units. In three years, I saw thousands of reactionary layoffs to met short-term financial objectives with no thought given to long term impact. Human Resources Managers get 24 hours notice, a packet of names to terminate, and an airline ticket a few times a year near the quarter end. When HR isn't at the Corporate Office, everyone knows there are executions taking place in the field.
    The red tape to do even simple tasks is severe. Simple decisions can take months while to flows through committees and closed door meetings. This is common in Fortune 500's but I found it even beyond those norms. It took me 17 days (my coworkers knew this would be a "Welcome to JCI!" moment and tracked it) to get a tape dispenser and my boss and boss's boss weighed in, along with Procurement. An $8 tape dispenser.
    Advancement is highly political. The yearly review process claims to be metrics based but it is not. It comes down to who you know. Yearly increases range from 2-4%. You will need a promotion every 2-3 years to keep up with market wages.

    Think long term.
    Consider extending the no firearm policy off campus as well.
