I have been working at Kellen Company full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Most of the people I worked with were always willing to lend a hand - and I needed the help. The office has everything you need as far as supplies. I learned alot about associations. The benefits seemed fine compare to other places.

    Cons

The client work is nonstop and most people are operating under too much pressure and blow ups are not uncommon. There’s an attitude here that if you are not sacrificing your personal life your somehow not dedicated. You get one review a year if you are lucky but it has no professional growth strategies in it. This is a very dysfunctional place with more than a few bullies and mucho internal politics. Many people in management positions here seem to be poorly equipped for their jobs and have lots of anxiety (I don’t think many of them would be able to get jobs elsewhere) of losing their job and spend too much time keeping their position safe - at the expense of their subordinates. Many of them seem to be self-taught and not really have any formal training at being managers. Then there is another group that are bullies and very destructive to their staff. There is way too much politics here and people spend way too much time throwing people under the bus than actually doing the client work, educating themselves and teaching people. People get crazy about who reports to who, titles and the whole hierarchy thing.

I also found no creativity here and management looks at you blankly when you bring up things that other companies have been doing for a very long time. There is also an amazing cluelessness/ignorance about what goes in other companies, what is legit and not legit, what sexual harassment is and there is an attitude that everyone should be grateful to have a job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop relying on your instincts because its obvious it isn’t working. Maybe hire a management consultant to analyze the company all around and not just tell you what you want to hear. Get a diversity trainer. Maybe then you can begin to fix the company.
