The Ultimate Meritocracy - If You are a White Male!

I have been working at Kiewit Corporation

    Pros

The company is financially strong. Unless you did something that is very unacceptable, you won't be fired.

Compensation and benefits meet the industry standard, although not extraordinary.

They might offer you to buy stocks after working for 7 years, which might or might not be a good thing.

Lots of opportunities to move around within the company. Job security is excellent.

    Cons

Lots of mediocre folks that don't contribute to the company are still around and have been around for a long time.

Have to fit in the Kiewit culture to be promoted: white male, likes working 60-70 hours/week while getting paid for 40 hours, slightly alcoholic, slightly biased towards women and minorities, and likes relocating 2000+ miles away on less-than-a-week notice.

If you are an engineer and actually likes the field of engineering, stay away from Kiewit. No respect whatsoever for the engineering profession.

Covert discrimination towards women and minorities. There is no such thing as meritocracy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire from the outside and not just from within the organization if the outsider is better.
