I have been working at Kiewit Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

You will not find a better learning opportunity at any other company right out of school. They will give you as much responsibility as you can handle and then some. Take advantage of the training and safety program. At Kiewit you learn how to do things the right way and not take short cuts. Your co workers will become your best friends and at least when you are working until 1AM everyone else on the project is still there. Once you move on like most the people you work with and go to other companies you will be so much further along than everyone else at your new company. The safety program at Kiewit is top notch and is something that will always stay with you. Even after working for 3 years and 100 hour weeks I will never regret working at Kiewit.

There is no reason for anyone to stay at Kiewit for more than 3-5 years. The pay is towards to the bottom of the industry for the hours and BS you have to do to get you job done. Once you have those years of experience working at Kiewit go start looking at other companies. Typically former Kiewit employees are top performers at other companies once they leave. So start looking for another job and enjoy the 20 -30k pay bump and work life balance improvement once you move.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put the company profit back to where the money came from. The guys in the field that are breaking their back making Omaha money should be rewarded for their work. Get rid of the insane amount of overhead and dead weight and get back to what made Kiewit a great construction company. Find a way other than the now crappy stock for people to stay. I felt while at Kiewit that that management understood this as issue but I seriously don't know if they can fix it. I was fortunate to learn from some of the best long time Supers & PM's at Kiewit. As these guys retire, quit, or die from stress there will be big issues for Kiewit.
