    I have been working at Kohl's part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Flexible-ish Hours
    -Minimal Health Benefits (meager)
    -Discount plans for merchandise and services outside of company
    -Diligent workers can expect 40 hour weeks, pending on availability.

    Cons

    -Closing Shifts usually involve staying 1-3 hours past schedule
    -High expectations from management despite low pay.
    -Only 15% discount on merchandise (35% on select days of the year)
    -Customer service policy not clearly defined, yet rigorously enforced
    -Corporate Office expects all stores to operate the same despite clear difference in resources from store to store (especially for older stores)
    -Occasionally will be expected to work 40 hour weeks, only to be punished for working over 36 hours from corporate (part timers).
    -No overtime (except on VERY rare occasions)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    (Corporate) Reduce effect merchandise returns to stores have on distributing payroll. Stores applying "yes we can" to returns are effectually being punished for following a directive which maintains customers.
     Better clarify how to implement customer service policy beyond sloganism. Too many unwritten and/if/or/buts which lose customers expecting some form of consistency.

    (General Management) Keep a more prudent eye on supervisors/department leads. Company resources are far too thin to allow junior management/supervisor positions to only delegate orders but not physically contribute to completing tasks.
