    I have been working at L'Oréal as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    There is mobility and diversity within the company because of its size, variety of functions and divisions, and global reach. There are some genuinely smart and interesting people. It is a very dynamic company and there are a lot of activities happening. The company name is obviously very well known and its spending power and reputation commands a level of respect. Some decent benefits for employees, depending on which location you are in. The beauty industry is fast-paced and always growing, and L'Oreal is one of the biggest players with some great brands. If you work well within the culture and make your successes known, you can move quickly through the company.

    Cons

    The company culture sucks: reactive versus proactive environment, very political, emphasis on performance and not process (performance is a result of a good culture, not a culture in and of itself). Outdated and slow IT systems and hardware. People who work really hard but not always very smart. Expected to put in long hours. Not exactly a warm, friendly, or collaborative place. When issues occur, blame and finger pointing is fast but problem-solving is slow, leading to low morale. Experiences vary greatly depending on your division, location, team and your direct manager, so pray for a good placement. Once people have been in the company for a few years and have become subsumed in the culture, they have a very skewed sense of the world and the way that things should operate that is not necessarily healthy or productive.

    Advice to Management

    L'Oreal is capable of achieving great things and it has some of the right people to do so, but the company culture seriously needs another look to improve flows of communication, collaboration, and agility. Perhaps some of the rampant arrogance will wear away once they realize that the world will soon stop revolving around companies that merely make products.
