    I have been working at LECO Corp full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Generally a 40 hour work week
    Doesn't push for non-maintainable work schedule
    Will work around family issues like having to take kids to school on a case-by-case basis
    Allows people to stay technical
    Can wear jeans
    Awesome yearly picnic (fair)
    The pay is OK in some departments

    Cons

    No flex-time
    Can't work from home
    Not generally receptive to new ideas or technologies
    No room for advancement (this can be good, though, because you can stay technical)
    The pay can be pretty lousy in some departments
    Dress code requires collared shirt and pants (no shorts)
    Still actively developing some applications in (ancient) C++ instead of C# or another more-appropriate, high-level language
    Some new products are being developed without UX design
    No continuous or nightly builds in one group on a huge project
    Not much unit testing or push for good software architecture & design on huge projects
    The leadership tends to micromanage

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Care about what matters. Allow flex-time, foster innovation, and don't care what people wear to work. Update the many dilapidated offices & buildings. Try to push practices that make it easier to develop software on a big team like unit testing, software architecture & design, & having continuous builds so you can release robust software quickly. Allow people to try new libraries and techniques and bring other people along instead of letting the stagnant developers hold everybody back. Take feedback from subordinates so you really know what's going on and how a manager is doing instead of letting managers keep implementing bad practices indefinitely.
